Some in our community are calling for the removal of OPD School Resource officers from local schools.

We feel that is a terrible, dangerous idea.

SRO’s do so much more than criminal enforcement. They encourage students to succeed, help build positive police/community relationships, and most importantly provide safety for the students and staff if the worst should happen. They have extensive training in working with youth and de-escalation in addition to all their required law enforcement training.

Removing SRO’s would be detrimental to the youth they serve and decrease public safety in our schools. Thankfully it appears that only a few radicals are calling for this.

We encourage everyone to pay attention to their local school board political races to be sure they support candidates that make public safety a priority.

Here is a story with one of our members that is an SRO. He explains what they are really all about.
